Cecil's not partying

When I last reported to you I was leaving New Jersey for the flatlands of Texas to check out the accommodations for the upcoming UConnect conference in June. If you haven't been to the Gaylord Texan, you definitely owe yourself a visit to these sumptuous digs.

But back to my point... and back to New Jersey. I've received calls from several of you describing a troubling policy that you're coping with regarding testing fees and locked-in service providers. If I sound like I'm on my soapbox again, maybe I am, but its for your benefit.

Cecil Stumping

Rather than focus on all-things-wrong in our industry this week, I'm adding my voice to eC-BP's invitation for members. There is so much good work being done by so many forward thinking people and companies that I truly believe if we join together to promote the best and most business friendly ways of executing e-Commerce strategies, we can make a difference. Add your name and voice to eC-BP's efforts to increase adoption rates of EDI by lowering the barriers to implementation.

Cecil's Conscience

I listen to a lot of radio as I drive between assignments, and two seemingly unrelated subjects caught my ear over the last week. The first story was about Consciencious Consumption and the second is the whole story about Scanlon and Abramoff and how they (allegedly) committed bribery to get their way. Read more...

Cecil's Wardrobe

It seems that everywhere I go I need a different set of clothes, and no matter how many seasons I pack for I'm always too cold, too hot, or too wet. This time of year always makes traveling difficult, especially since I cris-cross the country on the whims of my clients. Although I love traveling, I dislike having to pack differently for every client location I go to. Oddly enough I've been in New Jersey and Atlanta in the last two weeks and that brings me to the subject that's giving me heartburn today. Read more...

Cecil's Holiday Story

It was holiday season, the end of the year,
when all of the orders began to appear.
Our biggest new customer was sending in orders,
among them one letter, "Get onboard, that's an order!"

Cecil's New Year Headache

I spent New Year's Eve celebrating with family and friends this year. I'm on the road plenty, and thought I'd take the safe approach to holiday cheer. Being in one place gave me some time to think back over the year and consider some of the things I've encountered, people I've talked with, and business concerns that have come up. To say the least, it's been a busy year with plenty of rewards and an equal number of frustrations.

Cecil as a Service

When I arrived at my client's offices I found them deep into a discussion about how they were not going to use software any more. Now, you have to understand that I've spent my working life installing, training, fixing, and at times developing software. So to hear someone (especially one of my clients) in the midst of this kind of discussion took me by surprise

Cecil's Italian Pueblo

As I left my client's site in Texas after last week's unpleasant session, I reflected on exactly what they had said during their heated exchange. In truth, the accusations were pretty uncharacteristic of that normally laid back group.

Cecil's Reality Check

I had the windows down as I cruised up I-35 toward Minneapolis. Spring was in the air and my thoughts were on... well, let's just say that I was revelling in the fresh air and sunshine. I pulled in for a late lunch at a little downtown restaurant that was recommended to me by a frequent visitor to the Twin Cities.

Cecil faces the Music (City)

I decided to make the run from Memphis to Nashville in time to catch a late meal and some music in one of the too numerous to count clubs that populate the city. Since I needed to be in Nashville at the beginning of June for the UConnect Conference, I thought I would check out the Gaylord Opryland resort, and get an idea of what to expect.
