Cecil's Getting Work

Over the last couple weeks I've traveled from Maine to the Carolinas. Needless to say I've stopped at a few restaurants along the way. During my breakfast stops, the scene is always the same... people reading the newspaper.

When I look over their shoulders, I see that more than half the time they're reading the classified ads. And specifically the job listings. In itself, this universal quest for work tells me something important because it doesn't seem to matter whether I'm in a big city or a rural town, everyone is doing it.

The economy may be good, or it may be not so good. I tend to ignore what the politicians and news say, and look at both my own situation and the people around me. And without trying to comment on the situation myself, my observation tells me that people are either looking to better their situations, or afraid that their situations may deteriorate if their current employment ends.

But I also think that the search for a job is a pretty constant thing. I don't work for any one company, so I'm pretty much always looking for work. But even folks who have been employed by a single company for a while seem to look, if only out of curiosity.

The Buy Side
But then there are those companies that do the advertising because they have open positions. With regard to EDI, I see positions posted on Monster and Dice, but I also see frequent postings on the EDI-L group on Yahoo!

Over the last couple weeks I've also noticed a decent uptick in the job postings on www.ec-bp.org. I think it's a great thing to have a job board here, particularly since it goes to so many people who are directly involved in EDI. I would encourage any companies looking to fill open positions, to post your job requirements on this site. I understand that there's no charge for the listing.

But enough about finding work. I need a good meal this morning so that I can get on to my next appointment.

Cheers!

Cecil
