Time To Cry For Argentina: Government Cracks Down On Foreign E-Commerce

In a determined effort to keep Argentinean money within its own borders, the government recently issued new restrictions limiting citizens to two purchases of goods from foreign e-commerce web sites annually. Not only that, the new laws limit the value of foreign goods Argentineans may buy through the Internet at $25 per year.

Mandatory E-Invoicing Imminent In Chile

Chile, the first nation to introduce electronic invoicing ten years ago, is taking it one step further. Starting November, 2014, e-invoicing will transition a prescribed business tool to a mandatory one. The new system combines aspects of the batch-oriented folio method utilized in the Mexican CFDI model with real-time communications, as is the norm in Brazil and Argentina.

If you’re associated with a multinational corporation that conducts business in Chile and generates revenues in excess of $4.2 million dollars annually, that nation’s new electronic invoicing requirements will affect you. That’s because Chile’s taxing authority recently announced that as of November 1, 2014, commercial invoices transmitted by such entities must be sent electronically. Not only that, they must adhere to a standard electronic format for approval.

Data That's Meant to be Shared

The very nature of EDI and other forms of trading data is that it is to be shared. But as the volume of transactions grows, the details of individual transactions becomes less available. As trading transactions become part of what we now know as 'big data' the old tools to deal with these details simply are not sufficient to deliver meaningful information.

Walmart's $250 Billion Push

Over the last week or so there's been some angst about a new Walmart commercial featuring Mike Rowe - the "Dirty Jobs" guy. I watched the commercial and while I think I recognized the voice, there was no specific mention of or image of Mike Rowe anywhere. But that's really beside the point. The pitch is about Walmart's $250 Billion commitment to bring manufacturing back to the U.S.
