Purchase Order Acknowledgment - follow the EDI Standards or used in practice

received stampAs electronic trading continues to evolve, one of the areas of interest is with buying organizations wanting to get confirmation of the receipt of orders, on-going alerts on the order status and managing requested changes. What I'm talking about here is the use of the 855 Purchase Order Acknowledgement transaction and the confusion on the expected use or interpretation of this transaction.

E-Invoicing Challenges

accountant Back in the old days, you placed orders with your supplier by phone, fax, mail, and by walking into their store. They entered your order into their system, picked and delivered your products, and mailed you an invoice. Your AP clerk took the invoice, did the 3 way match, put it in the stack to be paid, and you mailed a check at the end of the month. Have times changed or what?

Gumby or a Stick Figure?

gumby2Seems EDI has been around forever and a day, even longer than me!  But cXML, xCBL, XML and PIDX to name a few, were absentee acronyms a dozen or so years ago!

The Danger of the One-Off

lovemywork You always walk a fine line with one-offs. Do you accept the challenge, do the work, and watch the organization reap the rewards? Or do you push back and reserve your resources for addressing only opportunities with a broad impact? And what do you base your decision on, anyway?

Hosting a 'Burn the EDI Manuals' Party?

EDI_cost_surveyec-bp.org recently asked you to provide feedback regarding your view of development costs associated with EDI processes and systems. The results are interesting but not particularly surprising. What is disappointing about the overall results is that the majority of respondents talk about the negative aspects of spending rather than about the potentially enabling technologies they are putting into place.

EDI Problems?

problemI just had a chance to look through the results of our recent survey on EDI costs. Some interesting responses were there, with not a lot of surprises.  I’m sure one of my fellow writers will provide a summary for the class. What really caught my attention, though, were the verbatim responses.

Put Communication at the Top for EDI Success

Customer_SuccessIn the recent survey ec-bp.org conducted to find out just how well EDI implementations have gone, and what went wrong, there were more successful initiatives than not. In fact, when asked about eight separate aspects of their implementations and which were successful, more than half of the respondents identified four of the aspects as successful. The other four aspects were listed as successful by more than one-third of the respondents.
